Film: The Murder of Louisa Dunne - The oldest cold case ever solved?
Today I watched in court as a jury found 92-year old Ryland Headley guilty of the murder of a woman 58 years ago. Is this the oldest cold case ever solved?
Louisa Dunne was found strangled in her home in Bristol fifty-eight years ago this weekend.
She was seventy-five.
Today, in the city’s crown court, a man was convicted of the grandmother’s murder.
What evidence did he leave at the scene?
How were cold case investigators able to solve this case when generations of detectives had been unable?
Avon and Somerset Police granted me rare access to the files and their investigators to produce this film I made for ITV News, which was released moments after conviction.
And some of the revelations about the killer - when he was finally unmasked - are truly terrifying.
The film is available globally on YouTube now.
And if you know of an older case which has seen a killer brought to justice - please do let me know…
This is fascinating stuff.
Blimey, that goes beyond cold, doesn't it !!! I will take a look at that later. How fascinating, Rob
